ROLEPLAY NOTES
SETTING: YT's canon, Snow Crash, is a cyberpunk (or possibly post-cyberpunk) novel published in 1992. The story takes place at some unspecified time in the not-too-distant future. Based on certain indicators within the canon, I estimate it to be about 2007. YT's first visit to Milliways occurs during the following year, 2008. The history of YT's world essentially paralleled ours until some time in the early 90s, when it took a sharp and very weird turn. YT's America is, from our perspective, a borderline-anarchic ultra-libertarian dystopia (or paradise, depending on your point of view). Whatever you want to call it, it's got some pretty cool tech - widespread virtual reality, cybernetics, artificial damn-near-intelligence, etc. Speaking of which...
ALTERATIONS TO CANONICAL TECH: Snow Crash anticipated or inspired many of the developments of the early 20th century, such as Second Life, Google Earth, wearable computers, and machine learning technology. However, it shows its age in places - remember that it was published in 1992. Video is recorded on actual tape rather than digital media; cell phones exist but don't seem that common; wifi and cellular broadband don't exist at all. I've made some changes to YT's setting to bring the technology up to 2007+ levels, where warranted. These changes are minor and have no effect on the canonical plot.
LOVE, OR SOMETHING LIKE IT ANYWAY: If your character would find YT attractive, feel free to note it in their thoughts/narration. YT will probably notice, but if it's just checking her out (and it's not ogling/leering/otherwise creepy), she will be okay with it. Similarly, your character can flirt with her if they would do that kind of thing. If the attraction is mutual, she will respond in kind. If the character is not her type, she will gently but firmly say so. If the character seems like a creep she will tell them off rather emphatically.
If your character is the kind of person YT would find attractive, I'll reach out to you OOCly before having her make a pass at them.
HOW'S MY RP?: If you have any questions or issues, including a request to handwave, redo a tag, or retcon a thread, please reach out to me on Discord (BookBeast#5723) or PM the character journal.
"A Kourier has to establish space on the pavement. Predictable law-abiding behavior lulls drivers. They mentally assign you to a little box in the lane, assume you will stay there, can't handle it when you leave that little box.
Y.T. is not fond of boxes. Y.T. establishes her space on the pavement by zagging mightily from lane to lane, establishing a precedent of scary randomness. Keeps people on their toes, makes them react to her, instead of the other way round."--Snow Crash, Chapter 6
