The Other Kung Fu Chick

The doc said YT is okay for skateboarding practice, as long as she doesn't do anything too crazy, so she's been just sort of cruising over the hills. She's roaming further than usual, because she's looking for someone.

She hasn't seen the kung fu chick since she went to the infirmary the other day. YT's kind of curious about her. And she also wants to learn her name, if possible. Maybe learn some of that cool stuff she was doing. After all, YT's planning to join a war effort soon, and afterward, being able to fight like that - or at least half so well, maybe even a quarter - would certainly be useful in her own world.

YT returns to the spot where she first saw the kung fu girl practicing, hoping that maybe she's back there today.

She's not; but there's another girl, this one scarred and blonde, training in a similar way.

Well -- in an attempt at a similar way. When it comes to martial arts, Steph isn't bad, precisely, but compared to Cassandra Cain -- well, there's no comparison.

When Steph stops for a drink and spots the other girl, she grins and waves a hello.

YT's a little disappointed not to have found the person she's looking for. But hey, this is a kung fu girl too. Maybe she knows the other one. "Yo," YT says, with a wave. She approaches a little closer, carrying her plank under her arm. "Sorry if I'm bothering you, but I'm looking for someone I saw here a while ago. She was practicing the same stuff you are." Although YT could see that this girl doesn't move with the impossible speed of the one she met before, she isn't discerning enough in these matters to see how different their styles and skill levels are. "About yea high, short dark hair, doesn't really talk? I didn't manage to get her name. I thought maybe you might know her."

Steph brightens. "Batgirl! I totally know her, yeah. She's one of my best friends."

She isn't going to say 'Cass' until she knows Cass herself has okayed that. She's not the Battiest, but she's still a Bat.

"You're totally not bothering me, either, I'm just about done." She looks it, all dripping and tired. "What did you need -- Batgirl for?"

YT kind of bugs out at that. She almost says but I thought Barbara Gordon was Batgirl - she doesn't keep up with the comics - but realizes that she'd then have some very uncomfortable explanations to make. "Uh...I just met her yesterday. We sparred and played tag, but then I hit my head on a rock and had to get it fixed up." Real slick, genius, she thinks to herself.

"You sparred with BG and you're upright today?" Steph's now pulling a long-sleeved hoodie on over her workout singlet, a little self-consciously. "Nice work."

She glances up, and grins. "She's pretty special. We've been friends for a long time."

Okay, so YT didn't look like a complete 'tard. Or if she did, this girl's nice enough to pretend not to notice. "Don't get me wrong, she went easy on me," YT explains. "I mean, I don't know nearly as much as you do. Just some of the stuff they taught us in Kourier training and what I picked up on the streets."

Scars comfortably hidden, Steph tips spare water over her head and shakes it out, and then yanks her hair back into a neater ponytail.

"She'd have known. See, she's from the past - uh, of my world. Not from the past past, but from, you know, my past, when she came here --" Steph's not great at explaining today, apparently. "Anyway, she never got taught words at all. Body language is like - Like, okay, she could look at me now, and know what I'm thinking about or if I'm lying or whatever. Way creepy sometimes."

She shoves towel and water into her bag and bounces up, all done practicing.

"--I'm Steph, by the way. Nice to meet you, yeah?"

"YT," YT says. "Good to meet you, too." She takes a few seconds to process what Steph's just told her about Batgirl. "I know someone who can do that," she says. "Not fighting, I mean. Just reading people. She's almost psychic. But...she can talk too." YT shakes her head. "How come she doesn't know how to talk?" She knows the answer's likely to be unpleasant. It usually involves spending your whole childhood locked in a closet by your psycho parents or something.

Steph wrinkles her nose, expressively. "Her dad -- total psycho, seriously. I'm heading in for some breakfast, you wanna come with?"

"Sure. I mean, I had mine, but I've always got room for an extra cup of coffee. YT decides not to ask any more about Batgirl. She's got a pretty good idea of what might've happened, to make her the way she is.

Steph gives her a quick smile, heading in.

"Bar serves such good coffee there's totally always room for more. So, you new?"

YT's already getting to like Steph. She's cheerful and friendly but not annoyingly so. Like she's genuine about it, not trying too hard. "I've been here since about Mardi Gras, by local time," YT says. "So I'm not a newb, but not an old hand either."

Steph grins. "Oh, you didn't come in during Mardi Gras! What an awesome introduction to the madhouse."

She says it with affection, though. She deeply loves Milliways.

"Oh, I mean I got here just before. So yeah, I saw it. And Bar gave me a whole bunch of those little plastic bead necklaces, the kind you get for flashing people. And I couldn't get them off." YT rolls her eyes. She's not going to talk about how she celebrated too much and got a four-alarm hangover. "At least I didn't get switched on April Fool's or anything. Good thing I don't like curry."

Steph laughs.

"Yeah ... never, like, never eat anything from Bar on a holiday. Even Christmas, but totally Hallowe'en and April Fools'. She has a great sense of humour."

"Great isn't so much the word I'd use," YT says, with a roll of her eyes. "But like I've said before, if you were a sentient magic bar at the end of the universe, you'd develop some pretty weird ways to get a laugh, too."

"Don't say that where she might hear you," Steph says with a grin. "She might decide to dress you all in frilly pink for a week or something. I wouldn't put it past her."

"Oh, she probably already heard what Adam said about putting me in a tutu," YT says dismissively. "I'm actually planning to get the jump on her this Halloween by making my own costume, if I'm still here." She's surprised at how casually she says that, like she actually wouldn't mind being Bound for that long.

"She likes that," Steph says, grinning. "What will you make?"

Steph never expected to be here long, either.

"I don't know yet. I've got time to think about it," YT says. "It's gonna have to be really good, not half-assed or anything, because then she'll just dress me up herself."

They reach the door of the Bar. YT, in a rare instance of actual politeness, holds it open for Steph.

"I'm not bad with - thanks! - with a sewing machine, if you need," Steph offers happily. "Maybe we should do costumes for everyone ... or, oh, I know, one for Bar! Get her back by dressing her up as ... something long and square." She laughs.

"Hey, we could paint her or glue things on her," YT says. "Then again, she might get back at us for getting back at her if she doesn't like whatever we come up with."

"Yeah, I wouldn't wanna glue or paint. But we could totally make a cloth and paint that. Just, she's like, sentient, you know?"

[OOC: So sorry! I totally dropped the ball on this one.]]

"And magic. And makes really good drinks." YT grins. Where you want to sit, exactly? Table, Bar or booth?"

[No worries. I do the same a lot.]

"Booth," Steph says promptly, heading in that direction. "You can see better. Not as good as sitting on a rafter, but for some reason most people don't like hanging out up there..." She flashes YT a grin.
